Tell us more about yourself and where you are from and where you live.
Grew up in Jackson, moved to the shore and I currently reside in Neptune. We love the shore area. There’s always something going on from live music to bonfires to drum circles. There is a real sense of community here, something you won’t find in a lot of other towns.
Tell us more about your business and what you do.
We started in 2020 right here on the shore. We are a full service tree company. We do all size tree removals, trimming, and plant health care. Small and local to all of Monmouth county towns. Our size allows us to be very attentive and give customers the attention and service they deserve. Our #1 priority is to leave the customer saying “Wow, I’ve never seen a company care so much.”
Why did you decide to start your business?
I wanted to be able to deliver the highest quality results and experience possible for my customers.
What are some challenges you face as a small business owner?
Keeping everyone happy, from customers to employees. Everyone has expectations, and we try to go above and beyond that to make sure people aren’t just happy, but blown away by how we treat the work and people.
What are some recommendations you have to others who may be starting out as a small business?
Be professional, be professional, be professional. Go above and beyond your own expectation to deliver the absolute highest quality customer service you can. Figure out how to enjoy it, even when everything looks tough and bleak.
Do your research on anything you are unsure of. Be consistent with growth and product delivery activities every day. Re-invest your income to grow the business. Marketing is 100% necessary. Have a good website or social media presence and pay for advertising.
However long you think it's going to take, it will probably take 3 times longer so be patient. Reach out to people more experienced than you, get ideas, talk about business. You must find people who can give you shortcuts.
Business is the toughest thing you will ever do, your mind must be tough, you must be confident in yourself especially in tough times. Stay confident and push harder when you think you can’t. Your business will try to break you every day, it's your job to figure out how to ENJOY it and keep moving forward.
Why is community so important to small business owners?
What's the point of being successful if you can’t give back to people and the community? Personal development only gets you so far, community development lasts forever and feeds your soul! The purpose of a business is to provide a useful service to a community of people, so if you do that as best as you can, the byproduct is a successful business. You can’t be successful without serving a community.
Tell us what you love about Asbury Park and what you are most looking forward to at the Asbury Park Fall Bazaar?
The camaraderie is unmatched. It’s one of those places where if you're there, you’re there for a reason and most likely share ideals with the person walking down the boardwalk right next to you. There are many niche groups in Asbury and you can feel the connection whether you’re at a local bar, hanging on the beach, or bringing your pet to Yappy Hour to meet other pups! There’s also always something fun to do!
What am I looking forward to most at the Bazaar? Meeting other local vendors and residents. Home owners are constantly asking about local service providers and it’s pretty awesome when I can link people together. I think the creative environment that Asbury fosters is the heart and soul of community, happiness and getting through this life in one piece. Life isn’t always easy, and a real community like Asbury comes together to help each other in difficult (or fun) times. I’m looking forward to making some new friends and seeing the cool and creative art that these vendors bring to the table, literally.
Thank you so much to Joe for all of this helpful information for small businesses & for sponsoring this year’s Asbury Park Fall Bazaar! Be sure to stop by his booth under the marquee on Saturday & Sunday, September 27-28, 12-5 PM in the Grand Arcade of Convention Hall.
